General Information

Living on the land, Louise Engel and David Johnson live where they farm. Their goal is to serve as stewards of the land, just as other families lived and farmed this land before them. Featherstone has been insecticide free since 1999 and is committed to environmentally sustainable winegrowing.

Granted custodianship over this very small but special piece of land, Dave and Louise's principal goal is to create vins de terroir- wines that are an accurate reflection of their microclimate and soil.

Wine growing is done in a way that encourages an environment that is completely unique. This individuality translates into the flavour of the wines.

Directions: QEW exit 57, Vineland (Victoria Avenue).

South on Victoria Avenue towards Niagara Escarpment, away from lake

Approximately 3.6 km to the set of traffic lights at the intersection of King Street/Regional Road 81.

Travel straight through the lights and proceed up the hill Pass Moyer Road.

Right at second farm on right - see the large pink rock at the road with the logo and a feather carved in it.

Look for a small white house set back from the road, surrounded by grapevines.

It is the micro-life in the soils which, with their ability to metabolise minerals into a form that vines can assimilate, are the link between plants and soil. This simple biology is the essential framework in producing wine which is true to its soil and site. With this understanding comes a respect for the land and the life therein and it is the reason that Featherstone looks to nature for answers.Lambs are used in the vineyard for leaf removal, birds of prey are used to deter nuisance birds and insecticides are not applied.
