Festival Theatre

GENERAL INFORMATION

The Festival Theatre is a proscenium-arch theatre that seats 869 people.  Each grand season debut is located in the Festival Theatre, every May.  This theatre is the Shaw's flagship theatre in which it puts on its large scale shows. The building houses a CafĂ© and Bernard’s, retail shop and an outdoor patio featuring lovely gardens.

DIRECTIONS

From QEW Toronto:

- Head southwest on Queen Elizabeth Way toward Exit 136 (16.6 km)

- Merge onto ON-403 W (20.8 km)

- Slight left onto Queen Elizabeth Way (signs for Niagara/East Hamilton/Fort Erie) (62.3 km)

- Take exit 38B for Regional Road 89/Glendale Avenue N toward Niagara-on-the-Lake (400 m)

- Turn right onto Glendale Ave/Regional Road 89 (550 m)

- Turn left onto York Rd/Regional Road 81 (signs for Virgil/Niagara-on-the-Lake) (450 m)

- Take the first right onto Airport Rd (2.8 km)

- Turn right onto Niagara Stone Rd (9.7 km)

- Continue onto Mississauga Street (1.3 km)

- Turn right onto Queen St (750 m)

- Continue onto Picton St (300 m)

- Continue onto Queens Parade (53 m)

- Destination will be on the right 

  
From QEW Fort Erie:

- Head northwest on Queen Elizabeth Way toward Exit 12 (30.5 km)

- Take the Regional Road 89/Glendale Avenue exit toward Niagara-on-the-Lake (500 m)

- Turn right onto Glendale Ave/Regional Road 89 (200 m)

- Take the first left onto York Rd/Regional Road 81 (signs for Virgil/Niagara-on-the-Lake) (450 m)

- Take the first right onto Airport Rd (2.8 km)

- Turn right onto Niagara Stone Rd (9.7 km)

- Continue onto Mississauga Street (1.3 km)

- Turn right onto Queen St (750 m)

- Continue onto Picton St (300 m)

- Continue onto Queens Parade (53 m)

- The destination will be on the right

 


Historical


The Festival Theatre was opened on June 20, 1973.  Her majesty Queen Elizabeth II that did the official opening of the theatre. The new Festival Theatre allowed the Shaw Festival to organize large scale performances which brought national and international positive attention.
