Cave Spring Cellars Winery Building

Built in 1871, this long rambling building, with its handmade cement blocks, was originally built to house the Jordan Vinegar Works.  Established by Clark Snure and his son Eldridge, it advertised "Jams, Jellies, Evaporated Fruits, Cider and Pure Cider Vinegar".  Snure also shipped barrels of dried apples throughout Ontario and overseas to England.  Stories abound of children attending the nearby stone schoolhouse, slipping away at recess for a sip of freshly pressed cider!

Archibald Haines, along with William Aiken of Dunnville, recognized the potential of local grapes and in the 1920s used the building to house Jordan Wines. The winery was taken over in 1964 by the Danforth Winery Company controlled by Seagram. The company later closed, and the building was purchased by Len Pennachetti, who launched Cave Spring Cellars and remodeled the entire complex into elegant, unique shops and boutiques.
