First Presbyterian North Pelham Church

The Presbyterian faith was brought to North Pelham by Reverend Daniel William Eastman.  Beginning in 1823, he began preaching to the people of North Pelham once a month in exchange for forty bushels of marketable wheat. The congregation opened their first church some years later on June 8, 1832.  It was later used as a farm building in the 20th Century.

“The present, functioning, First Presbyterian Church in North Pelham was constructed in 1870 using bricks made in the Tice Brickyards.  Mr. Jacob Tice donated 25,000 bricks and charged $4.00 per thousand for the rest.  The brickyard was probably on Tice Road, which runs parallel to Highway 20.  If you drive east on Tice Road, you pass land that has been cleared, farmed, mined for sand and gravel and regenerated into a golf course.  In fact, you travel across 200 years of Pelham’s rural history!” Mary Lamb, Pelham Historical Society  Archivist
